According to reports coming out of VGChartz, PlayStation 4 sales have officially passed the lifetime sales of Nintendo's 3DS line (which also features 2DS and the various "NEW" 2DS and 3DS models) as of week ending November 25th, 2017. Sony was able to cross that milestone within the 4 year birthday of the monstrous launch of the PS4.
Most analysts are saying the PS4 will cross 100 million units sold by the end of 2018 and it sure looks likely of doing that. What with Spider-man, God of War and a slew of other exclusives heading to the system throughout the next year. Some have speculated that the recent successes of the Switch will not slow the PlayStation 4's momentum down and see it as a nice "sister" platform in people's homes.
Now with the PS4 doing so well (sales are to be hovering close to 75 million by the end of 2017), what this means for Sony's plans for a new PlayStation platform might be held off seeing how they have managed to sale almost 20 million units a year for the last 4 years. However, PS5 talk should be saved for another article. Hopefully you all have been enjoying this last year of gaming, because next year is only going to get crazier.
